Summer Vacation — Day 5

First of all Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers out there.

Today was very low key for us. I spent the day continuing the big clean around the house. The children rebelled and lost pool privileges today. I just love being a mean mom at times. But the boys room was complete and the big girls room is mostly done. I was able to get the laundry area of the basement and our bedroom completed. The kitchen pantry will be done tomorrow, I just ran out of time since it was set up day for the Cub Scout Day Camp this evening and I wanted to feed the family dinner first.

Richard took Amanda and the middles to set up the site. They were lucky and the den’s location is at the top end of the camp site, makes getting to it and from it much easier, usually they are the back end of the camp site so that adds time to the day.

Tomorrow Richard, Patrick and Mandy start their week long Cubs Through time adventure. I am sure they will enjoy it, especially knowing that its their last year there. I will work on the pantry and then work with Liz and finish up the big girls room. Once those are completed, the Big Clean will be done for the top two floors. Then onto the rest of the basement. I will need to work with Amanda to finish that up since her bedroom is in part of the basement, so that might be this weekend since she is at the Cub Scout Camp.

I hope you all had a wonderful and blessed Sunday.

Summer Vacation — Day 3

It was also the 3rd day of the Big Clean. I have to say the house is coming together. Other than paperwork filing, the dining room is done. I was able to clean out the white shelving unit, storage dresser and buffet today. I am sitting at a totally clean computer desk (which is my second nemesis). In the kitchen I have to go through the pantry and two more cabinets and then it will be done. One the kitchen is done then the entire downstairs will be complete.

Upstairs, the linen closet is done, the little girls’ room is done, the boys’ rooms is done (for now, you know how it is with boys) and both bathrooms upstairs are done. All that remains to finish up there is my bedroom and the big girls room.

The final area in the house is the basement. That contains a play area, Mandy’s bedroom, a half bathroom and the unfinished laundry area/pantry. The pantry area of the basement and the half bath are done so all we have to work on is the laundry area and Mandy’s bedroom.

Liz did not have to go back to Hopkins today, everything is looking great. Praise the Lord! So I am hoping things with her settle down for now and she can get working on her mobility training and educational testing to determine which programs and services she will need when she is able to return to school.

My brother arrived at Mom’s house today. If everything is okay in the morning we will be taking the family down to visit with mom and my brother. We may even invade the rehab center and visit dad. I am sure they will appreciate us bringing ALL nine children in for a visit. Can’t wait to see the expressions and hear the comments.

I hope you all have a wonderful Saturday!

Summer Vacation — Day 2

Today was Liz’s follow up from her surgery. She appears to be recovering well, but the surgeon ordered some additional tests. We spent most of the day at radiology for a CT scan and the lab for some blood work. Plus the doctor did a tap of the shunt. The preliminary results look good, but tomorrow morning I have to call him back. If there is any question about the results then she will have to go in for a full spinal tap.

Today was day 2 of the Big Clean. Mandy and Douglas did a great job of keeping up with the list since Liz and I were occupied with all the doctor’s appointments. I will be picking up with my list items tomorrow (unless we have to run back to Hopkins for a spinal tap). I hope to get the little girls’ room done, and then start my bedroom.

I also found out today that my brother is coming up to visit my mom and dad in the rehab center. He lives in Georgia. I haven’t seen in him in at least 5 years, I hope we all will be able to get down to visit him but it is one of those weekends where it may not be possible.

Next week Richard, Patrick and Amanda will be attending the Cub Scout Day camp for our area. This is Patrick’s last year as a Cub Scout. I won’t be missing this adventure next year.

I hope you all had a semi quiet day. 🙂
