As most of you know, my oldest is now away at Mount Saint Mary’s University. She is loving it up there. She has made some friends already. She has had a couple of bumps along the way. The most notable being injuring her shoulder playing a “friendly” game of tennis. She basically dislocated it and has messed up all the tendons in the area. She will be starting physical therapy next week. In about a month we head back to the orthopod to see if anything else (think surgery) will need to be done.
At the seminary at Mount Saint Mary’s there is a priest called Father Leo. He has a ministry called Grace before Meals. This movement encourages families to eat together as often as possible, talk while you prepare the meals, say grace before you eat, and having meaningful conversation while you eat.
In June, Father Leo was challenged to a Throwdown by Bobby Flay of the Food Network. They cooked steak fajitas. It was a great show to watch and Father Leo was a hoot, especially when he pulled out the Rosary while waiting for the judging results. Thankfully Fr. Leo won, but we all knew he would because of his “connections.”
I encourage you all head over to the Grace Before Meals site and sign up for the newsletter. Fr. Leo is trying have his show picked up by PBS. I think it would a wonderful thing for all families to see how important the family dinner is to maintaining a close family.
And if you are interested, Fr. Leo has a book out too. It is on my Christmas Wish List.
